ACCESSING MIRC LIST SERVICE

Who is eligible to access MIRC resources?

MIRC member agencies are granted automatic access to the interpreter list and packet of interpreting-related resources because of the financial and administrative support they contribute to the Metro Interpreter Resource Center project.

Non-member agencies who are interested in receiving the list can contact the MIRC Coordinator.  The Advisory Board will consider requests from both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations working in the metro area.

Fee for service

There is no list access fee for member agencies that have made their annual financial contribution to the project.

For non-member agencies who have a state-recognized status as a “not-for-profit” organization, the annual access fee is $500.  For non-member agencies who do not have a state-recognized “not-for-profit” designation (i.e., for-profit), the annual access fee is $750.

Contents of Resource Packet

All contracts for accessing the MIRC list service are for a 12 month period.  Payment of the list service fee will entitle the agency to receive an updated resource packet every month for 12 months.

The resource packet will include:

-    List of interpreters, specifying languages/dialects spoken, hours of availability, qualifications (by level) and contact information.

-     Summary of information required for making payment to interpreters (Name, Address, SSN, etc)

-     Request for service form

-     Guidelines on interpreter compensation

-     A copy of the Memorandum of Understanding that is signed by each interpreter

-     Tip sheet on working with interpreters

-     Evaluation form to provide feedback on interpreter services/training suggestions

About the interpreter list

The purpose of the MIRC project is to help agencies better quantify the qualifications of the people they hire to do English Language interpreting.  MIRC does not provide actual interpreting services. The project does offer free training and English language testing to potential interpreters, as well as ongoing opportunities for support and continuing education.

To be included on the MIRC list, an interpreter must, at a minimum, have demonstrated a high level of English language proficiency.  As training levels and fluency increase, so does the recommended level of compensation.

Confidentiality

The agency that purchased access to the MIRC resource packet can distribute and use the information freely within its own organization.  The agency is, however, prohibited from sharing the information with other agencies who are not participating financially in the program.

Non-compliance

If the MIRC Board determines that a member agency has failed to comply with any of the terms and conditions of this agreement, it may immediately terminate the agreement.  An agency will be notified of such termination in writing.
