ABOUT OUR
COMMUNITY
Serving a diverse
population
-
According to national information, Fargo-Moorhead is one of the largest
refugee resettlement communities per capita in the country.
-
Resettlement has occurred among many different cultural groups. Local
refugees and immigrants speak more than forty different dialects and
belong to a similar number of cultural groups.
-
The
most frequent languages spoken are Bosnian, Kurdish, Arabic, Farsi,
Spanish, French, Somali, Vietnamese, Dinka and Russian.
-
The
gender breakout is 52% male 48% female. This larger male demographic in
our community is likely due to the high number of children as well as a
larger number of the Lost Boys of Sudan that have resettled here.
-
As the
population in the area continues to become increasingly diverse, the need
for linguistically and culturally appropriate services has risen
dramatically.
