February 4: Due to declining inventory, increased handling costs and the spread of bacteria and viruses, Metro Area Transit (MAT) will retire tokens and discontinue their usage on January 1, 2011. Passengers will be able to use their current inventory of tokens through December 31, 2010. Any tokens must be used by this date; any remaining tokens will not be exchanged and no monetary refunds will be given.
On February 1, 2010, MAT discontinued the sale of tokens and began selling single-ride tickets. Sold in packets of 20, the tickets function the same as tokens and are available to be purchased at the Ground Transportation Center for the same prices as the tokens ($25.00 for adults & $12.00 for elderly, youth and disabled). Please take note that these tickets expire one year from the date of issuance, which will be stamped on the outside of the package. Passengers need to use these tokens before the expiration date printed on the package; after the expiration date, tickets will not function and no exchanges will be made.
