October 27: New numbers show that the City of Fargo Solid Waste Departments new automated, volume based garbage collection system is off to a successful start. Since the program began on September 14, the amount of residential waste is down between 15-20 percent over September/October 2008, that’s between 65-75 tons per week. During that same time period, curbside and drop-site recycling has increased between 20-25 percent or 30-35 tons per week. Please note that these numbers are preliminary and may change as the program matures. A more detailed report will be completed after 6 months of collection.
