Driver and passenger safety

The best way to keep drivers and passengers safe is through the use of seat belts and child safety seats. We've implemented several projects to emphasize the importance of buckling up every time you're in a moving vehicle.

Child passenger safety curriculum:
Our Buckle Up With Bucky materials offer teachers and parents an easy and fun way to communicate with children about seat belt safety. We developed a collection of materials that focus on the who, what, when, where and how of seat belt safety. The materials include a video, storybook, CD and growth chart. A presenter's guide is also available for those who want to share the information with a group.

National campaigns: We provide a local emphasis on national seat belt campaigns such as "Click It or Ticket".

School seat belt project: this project works with local junior and senior high schools to place a semester-long focus on seat belt safety. We conduct observational surveys to determine the percentage of students who buckle up; then we try to increase that percentage through the use of education and incentives. The photo at right shows signs we placed at Moorhead High School.

Work site seat belt project: We work with local businesses to emphasize the importance of seat belts to their employees . We use education and incentives to increase the number of these adults who buckle up. (Learn more about this project.)
